To my son:

I’m sitting here thinking about your upcoming home visit. While I’m feeling a bit anxious, I’m also feeling happy and eager to see you.

It’s really been an amazing year for both of us.
  • We have been able to talk about and grieve the past.
  • You have learned a lot about yourself and what you can accomplish.
  • We have both learned to “hear each other”.
  • You’ve gotten to experience such things as river rafting, hiking, and horseback riding.
  • We have been able to make “good” memories during our visits.
  • You are doing fantastic in school.
  • You’ve learned about getting “over the bumps in the road.”
  • I have learned to “accept the things I cannot change and change the things I can.”
  • We’ve made new friends.
  • You’ve learned that you can conquer fears (swallowing pills, flying, being away from home, etc.)
  • Son, while I know that you were not thrilled that I sent you to Bridges, I’m extremely proud that you continue to work your program. You have gone through many up’s and down’s (experiencing lots of new feelings) – and you keep moving forward. You are gaining knowledge and skills, which will help you out in the world. You are succeeding.

You are becoming a wonderful young man and words cannot express how proud I am of you.

    Love always,

    Mom
